Images of Surgical Instruments

I have several suggestions for finding images online of various surgical instruments:

First of all, a Google Image Search will usually work just fine but it will require you to verify that the instrument in the picture is correctly described and titled.

I would also recommend using Google's Advanced Feature to limit your search to .edu domains, and in doing so myself, I found a great resource from the University of Texas

Every Surgical Instrument also has a Patent number, and so consequently Google's Patent Search can provide you with a full description of the device's purpose as well as a detailed drawing of the tool.

Lastly, anyone who sells such instruments will probably have an online catalog as well, but again, verify that the website is legitimate before deciding to use it.

  1. The primitive surgical instruments included flint, saws and knives. Various procedures such as removing fingers with knives were performed based on the knowledge of the day. Two of the most common surgeries were circumcision and trepanation, inserting a hole in the skull in order to release pressure or spirits that were causing pressure.

  2. Hi,

Surgical instruments facilitate a variety of procedures and operations. Specialized surgical packs contain the most common instruments needed for particular surgeries. Instruments should always be inspected before, during, and after surgical or dental procedures. Thanks a lot...
